Thanks for the Blog Spot Kate
Thanks so much for setting this up Kate! I just read the note from FM. It's awesome that he can view this..and respond...So much different than the first time he was gone! Note to FM... Hi ..We sent a package today. Let us know what you need for the next one or I'll act on Nic's idea about the peeps! I know how much you like them!! Aunt Judy is making your special cookies this weekend. We are trying to figure out how to mail them. The plan we came up with is to put them in rubbermaid containers then vacumn pack sacks?? We will see. I know you will enjoy them even if they are melted and crushed! We are going to Jilly Bean"s Colonel promotion ceremony this week end. You were supposed to pin her! We will miss you very much and you know the colonel is going to cry when she talks about you then we'll all be blubbering ... The knee is healing and I'm seriously learning to HATE Physical therapy!! Take Good Care.. Dad and I love you very much!! Note to FM's and Kate's friends...Thank you for keeping this spot going. I enjoy the photo's and notes so much..I know it means a lot to him...Zimmy, I keep looking for a note and photo's from you?? Get busy! Thanks again Kate..We will see you next weekend. Corliss

Team Lannan - A Story
I needed some motivation for a workout yesterday -- so I put on my Power Shirt.
But then I got sad because it made me miss you.
But that made me miss you worse, and got really sad, because I had no one to train with and my muscles would shrivel into nothing.
And dreamed we were in TRON together.

But then, I thought about all the good work you are doing overthere and then cheered up!
But that made me miss you worse, and got really sad, because I had no one to train with and my muscles would shrivel into nothing.
But then I thought about the wisdom you taught me and the motivational secrets instilled on crossfit.com and I knew you would be back soon.
But then, I fell asleep.
And dreamed we were in TRON together.
World's Worst Blogger !
Wow...am I dumb...this took about twenty minutes for me to get registered...I am sure to be the World's Worst Blogger by the end of the day ! I hope you and Kate are able to read this...I am looking at a blank screen ...and could be posting this message to the anywahere in web land!
All is well in New England...we are officially out of winter weather...have actually seen the sun several times...and currently dealing with moderate rain. I was cruising through various storm fronts this weekend...drove from Boston to Syracuse to see Sallie. She said to say 'Hi' for her.
This is graduation week at Umass...so the students are happy , and the faculty are happy...but I feel like I am just getting caught up a bit...has been a busy semester. I am going to try and send you a video clip from a TV interview I did last Friday ( about the current challenges that grads have looking for a job ) ...it was a PR thing for UMass...but it went pretty well...if I can't send it ( maybe too much for a bad blogger to attempt ) I will have Jon send it to you.
Not sure if you are a baseball fan...unfortunately, Seattle is struggling , in last place right now ... Boston just moved into first place in a very competetive division. I have tickets for a game at Fenway in July...looking forward to that.
I hope all is well...I am sure you are experiencing a big transition...and getting to know the team under new circumstances...a major challenge...but one you are trained for! Be confident and be focused.
I will be sending you a package later this week...please let me know if you have any requests...otherwise, you will probably be appalled at what a 58 year old thinks is cool ! Seriously, please let me know if there is anything you would like or could use...I'm not exactly sure what you can get and what is difficult to get. Think of you every day and want you to know that I care about you and I am proud of you and I want you to to know that we all love you !

woohoo
Hello to the Fordman! (And to my great daughter, her cutely psychotic dog and her wonderful relations and friends!)
It has been said the 'old people' wouldn't be able to figure this out - so all you old people blog on!
Meanwhile, Ford, work on your tan these next few days. Kate and the rest of us will remain a lovely pasty white. Mamawegs

This is OUTSTANDING!
I, myself, have GOT to give props to Kate for starting this bloggity blogg blogg. And I know a few Lannans who will be supah pleased to contribute (like me, of course).
Ford, you are gonna have WAY too much to read, you dig? WAY too much. I will personally make it my job to fill it with ridiculous bs from home - and whatever else Kate requests of me.
Katie-bug, whatever you need, lady. Whatever you need!
Love from B'ookLAN!

Ha ha! Yea, right... Thanks Mere!
Actually reminds me to let everyone know that I am going to take the website down and let this be the primary form of communicating with Ford - this way...when you leave wonderful comments, like the ones on the website - he will be able to read and then write back occasionally! This blog is more interactive and will allow people to keep up with him and the rest of the family at the same time.

Kate AKA Wonder Woman

Baylor is missing Papa big time! No matter where he is in the house, he is sure that Ford is home just in another room...so he is constantly going in and out,in and out - Jon calls is cruising. Once he realizes that I am not hiding Papa - he wants to go through the rest ofthe house to look for him...he aims himself at the door to motivate me to let him go look and is distracted by only one thing......
I thought you would all be interested in the following article which discusses a program available to send care packages!
http://www.usps.com/communications/newsroom/2008/pr08_010.htm
These should be the only boxes that you send over to him and cannot be any heavier than 20 pounds, but will ship directly to him for less than 11 bucks!
Ford will not have the everyday comforts that we all take for granted, so anything from home is always greatly appreciated! It’s a great way to show support, not just to him, but the whole team, if you are so inclined. If you have any questions about what to send or what he needs, call me and I will make suggestions.
His address is:
Cpt. XXXX XXXXX

Today we went to Beau's baseball game and then the whole family came back to the house for a bbq. It was perfect, the sun came out and Ford and took the bike for one last spin...
At one point, we gathered the whole family around Ford and Jill shared with us a great way to honor Ford while he is so far away. I think it is a great idea and want to share it with all of you.
Ford loves triathalons, races, etc. so what better way to keep him close than to challenge yourself to train and compete in a race - as a tribute?
Here in Seattle we are competing (as a team of 6) in the September OysterRaces:
http://www.oysterracingseries.com/Seattle-Home/home.aspx
In Atlanta we will participating in the June Muddy Buddy (5 teams of 2):
http://www.muddybuddy.com/events.php?id=3
Beau is designing a tshirt that we can all wear to unify us and draw attention to our cause!
Find an event near you, wear the t-shirt, make signs, fly American flags and takes pic's - we'll send them to him and he will get a real kick out of our cross-country attempt to unite through outdoor racing!

He started packing today.
His drawers are empty. He did it rogue in the night - or...more likely, in the wee hours of the morning when only he is up...well, him and a droopy four legged shadow, sleepily following him from room to room.He did it that way, so I wouldn't see...So I wouldn't be sad and so that I could remain in total denial. The guys had to have their bags packed and in today - they are being shipped in advance and will waiting on them when they get there....hopefully.He had all weekend to do it - but waited until 5am this morning, when he could be sure I wouldn't be snooping around wondering what he was getting into.He would have gotten away with it too - if not for the laundry I took into what we call the Army Room - where everything that is camoflauge lives in our house....I opened the drawer and it was completely empty.,,when you leave for 9 months - you take everything...I cried.

This is soooo bizzare.
I keep staring at him. When he sleeps, when he eats...when he's watching tv with his mouth open....It's like I'm trying to absorb enough to get me through the times when I'll look over and he won't be there. It makes me sad - my eyes will fill up with tears and I'll have to duck into the fridge to pretend to hunt for something I'm not missing...He of course, just thinks I'm crazy.
