Thank You Brother

Forder....

I just got home from work and am packing up the Civic to go surf with Beau-Beau, and I thought of you.

Thank you for your selflessness so that I can go surf with my kid.

I miss you, and I look forward to spending a whole lot of time with you when you get back.

I am reminded again today how important time with family is....maybe i'm getting older or wiser...or something.

We are only here...just a very short time, and that truth alone reminds me to embrace every second of every day.

I love you Forder

See you soon

Peace

Could have been Corliss...................

Gov. Sarah Palin
DENVER - John McCain tapped little-known Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his vice presidential running mate on Friday in a startling selection on the eve of the Republican National Convention.
Palin is a self-styled hockey mom and political reformer who has been governor of her state less than two years.
At 44, Palin is a generation younger that Sen. Joseph Biden of Delaware, who is Barack Obama's running mate on the Democratic ticket. She is three years Obama's junior, as well — and McCain has made much in recent weeks of Obama's relative lack of experience in foreign policy and defense matters.
She is a former mayor of Wasilla who became governor of her state in 2006 after ousting a governor of her own party in a primary and then dispatching a former governor in the general election.
More recently, she has come under the scrutiny of an investigation by the Republican-controlled legislature into the possibility that she ordered the dismissal of Alaska's public safety commissioner because he would not fire her former brother-in-law as a state trooper.

Which way to the gym comments

Fordo..I just read the comments under the photo. I saw one from Chuck P. I was soo happy to know that he is OK! Hi Chuck..We missed you guys at the wedding! Hope to see you one of these days. Ford needs to discuss an outward bound trip with you.. Take care. Corliss
Happy Birthday, Janelle! Hope you are feeling better. Tehya just had a virus last week that was going around here (Mono-little kids don't get it as bad, I guess), luckily she got over the worst symptoms in just a few days. My niece, Kyleigh, only got it for a day. We got Tehya a short haircut again this week as she decided she wanted to try her hands at hairstyling and chop her own hair. I tried to have them blend it. She still looks cute to me.

We are all headed camping on the Oregon coast for Labor day weekend & my birthday Sun. thru Tues. Blayne & Beau will surf, the girls & I will sun, sand, & swim. Our camping spot is right near the beach (short walk) at Ft. Stevens (between Seaside & Astoria). I'm trying to finish up a school paper and exam today before work tomorrow, so we can pack Sat. and head out Sat eve. or Sun. Lots of kids to get ready for the trip. Then back to school on Wed. I hope all of the family is doing well! Friends too!!

Lots of love,
Shanna

It was my birthday...

Hey Fordo 'n fam..

Tuesday was my 34th birthday and I ate a lot, one or two of which didn't sit well... sad sad sad.  I've been poopy (literally) ever since.  hahahaha

Today I'll move my friend's truck for alternate side parking and maybe take the laundry in.  But tonight is a bachelorette party for my friend whose wedding is this Saturday... on a boat on the Hudson!  Gonna be dressed to the nines and we're totally excited.

You've got 166 days left (or I think that's what I read on the blog countdown) and I can't imagine what that wait is like - I get to see Luis every day.  No wonder Kate's boastfully making abusive videos of your dog.  I'd be bored too!  (just kidding, Katie)

OK, well... miss you tons, buddy.  Can see your smiling red face right now and it tickles me to no end.

Love you!
Janelle

Classic Humor

Hope all you bloggers enjoy these. A lot of you are too young to remember most of these characters, but they were pretty quick witted.

Hollywood Squares:If you remember the Original Hollywood Squares and its comics, this may bring a tear to your eyes. These great questions and answers are from the days when ' Hollywood Squares' game show responses were spontaneous, not scripted, as they are now.

Peter Marshall was the host asking the questions, of course..

Q. Do female frogs croak?
A. Paul Lynde : If you hold their little heads under water long enough.

Q. If you're going to make a parachute jump, at least how high should you be?
A. Charley Weaver : Three days of steady drinking should do it.

Q. True or False, a pea can last as long as 5,000 years.
A. George Gobel : Boy, it sure seems that way sometimes.

Q. You've been having trouble going to sleep. Are you probably a man or a woman?
A. Don Knotts : That's what's been keeping me awake.

Q. According to Cosmopolitan, if you meet a stranger at a party and you think that he is attractive, is it okay to come out and ask him if he's married?
A. Rose Marie : No; wait until morning.

Q. Which of your five senses tends to diminish as you get older?
A. Charley Weaver : My sense of decency.

Q. In Hawaiian, does it take more than three words to say 'I Love You'?
A. Vincent Price : No, you can say it with a pineapple and a twenty.

Q. What are 'Do It,' 'I Can Help,' and 'I Can't Get Enough'?
A. George Gobel : I don't know, but it's coming from the next apartment.

Q. As you grow older, do you tend to gesture more or less with your hands while talking?
A. Rose Marie : You ask me one more growing old question Peter , and I'll give you a gesture you'll never forget.

Q. Paul, why do Hell's Angels wear leather?
A. Paul Lynde : Because chiffon wrinkles too easily.

Q. Charley, you've just decided to grow strawberries. Are you going to get any during the first year?
A. Charley Weaver : Of course not, I'm too busy growing strawberries.

Q. In bowling, what's a perfect score?
A. Rose Marie : Ralph, the pin boy.

Q. It is considered in bad taste to discuss two subjects at nudist camps. One is politics, what is the other?
A. Paul Lynde : Tape measures.

Q. During a tornado, are you safer in the bedroom or in the closet?
A. Rose Marie : Unfortunately Peter, I'm always safe in the bedroom.

Q. Can boys join the Camp Fire Girls?
A. Marty Allen : Only after lights out.

Q. When you pat a dog on its head he will wag his tail. What will a goose do?
A. Paul Lynde : Make him bark?

Q. If you were pregnant for two years, what would you give birth to?
A. Paul Lynde : Whatever it is, it would never be afraid of the dark.

Q. According to Ann Landers, is there anything wrong with getting into the habit of kissing a lot of people?
A. Charley Weaver : It got me out of the army.

Q. It is the most abused and neglected part of your body, what is it?
A Paul Lynde : Mine may be abused, but it certainly isn't neglected.

Q. Back in the old days, when Great Grandpa put horseradish on his head, what was he trying to do?
A. George Gobel : Get it in his mouth.

Q. Who stays pregnant for a longer period of time, your wife or your elephant?
A. Paul Lynde : Who told you about my elephant?

Q. When a couple have a baby, who is responsible for its sex?
A. Charley Weaver : I'll lend him the car, the rest is up to him.

Q. Jackie Gleason recently revealed that he firmly believes in them and has actually seen them on at least two occasions. What are they?
A. Charley Weaver : His feet.

Q. According to Ann Landers, what are two things you should never do in bed?
A. Paul Lynde : Point and laugh

VAN

I think we should all take the van around and have crazy adventures solving crimes and whatnot. I have to give credit to Kate for the idea...which I thought was hilarious. Sorry I have been so absent on this blog. We continue to be pretty busy over here. Although it does kind of ebb and flow. I will send some pics to Kate so she can distro them out to everybody. Love to all.

Fur Bus

WOW, Jon's picture of the fur bus was way cool. That could be a lucritive business in Wasilla. Sis, all of your sewing and jewelry making talent could be put to use in the decorating of said 'Fur Bus'. Could be a money maker, ya think?

AK soldier in GA training

Corliss - will you check with your friend and see if we can get her hubby off post for some Wegman home time and Atlanta fun? Let me know how I can reach him.

Getting the RIGHT people on the bus.

Don't know who those slackers are on the fur bus, but I say get rid of them, because there are better-looking Lannans around the country to keep this bus going.

Oh, and save a spot for ME!

98 Astro Van

Pops....You should turn the Astro Van into Alaska's first "fur bus."

Pimp out the inside...

Rent a tux for Rick Volkman (he could be the driver)

Rent it out for like $300.00 a night, not including beverages and food.

Put a fridge and TV in it.

Theres enough alcoholics in Wasilla alone to keep you busy year around.

Good call You! Jon Wegman....

FUR BUS!!!!!!!

Ok,
So in Atlanta, and many other cities... There exists the "Fur Bus"
Basically, a super tacky, and eccentric Bus / Limo.
The outsides are very nondescript, usually painted solid colors (not professionally).
But the insides are all pimped out and party ready.

People love them.
They are super fun, and not pretentious, and also safe when drinking.

This could be a great little business to have in Alaska.
Prom / Weddings /Summer solstice / Any occasion to get wasted...

1998 Chevy Van

That is one stylin van if you ask me! When I told Stosh about it after talking with my sis he fell out. He also said he figured Tom bought the only ticket sold so he was definately a shoo in to win. So - o - o - o Thomas, think you ought to do whatever feels right with you new prize.

Ford, love you to pieces. Kate, was great hearing your voice the other day.

Love to all,

Auntie Carla

A 1998 Chevy Astro Van...

So...for those of you who haven't heard yet - in a weird twist of fate, Tom has won a 1998 Chevy Astro Van in a raffle to raise money for local seniors.

How crazy is that? I can't make this stuff up! No-one is quite sure what to do with the van, as it is...at the end of the day, a 1998 Chevy Astro...

I have polled the family and this is what we have so far:

Corliss - no doubt motivated by the sight of the van in the driveway, would like to give it back to the Charity to re-raffle off

Tom - would like to keep the van, to use when the whole family visits at the same time and goes skiing (for the record, this has only ever happened once, but heck - maybe knowing we have adequate ground transportation will encourage group travel...)

Blayne - would like the van driven down from Alaska, gutted and turned into a "Surf Van" for him and Beau, to either use as a new business or maybe just for fun???

Ford - and this will come as a shocker, says sell and invest the money in savings.

As for me... I think we should start a band or some sort of team that solves mysteries.

I am sure Tom appreciates our help, what do you think Tom should do with his prize??

The "2" Dorks

I haven't blogged for awhile..Yes it is true. He won a 1998 Chevy Astro Van!!! I think it is because he was the only person to buy a ticket! The Senior Center was raffling it off to get money for a new one. Anyway.. I told him to give it back, but he wants to keep it for BCL and son. The kid wants to turn it into a "SURF" van.. you know..tear out the seats etc etc.. Can't you just visualize the "Surf van" with the "Senior Center" Logo on it!!I am sure missing my youngest son. Some days more than others! Today is one of those "other" days. I would actually do about anything to hear his voice. Hey.. where are you Zimmy? I am not going to spend time posting incriminating photo's of you if you don't read the blog!! You know that I have some really good ones. ME.. Thank you for the awesome beads. I have already designed one necklace. That was very thoughtful. I am almost ready for the next Polka Party! The knee is absolutely fabulous since the ACL graft. I am not sure what I was thinking when I decided not to do it in the first place!! I guess the words "1 year rehabilitation " scared me off ,then the words "brace for the rest of your life" helped me make the decision to go for it! Good final decision! If you need one.. my advise is to get "er" done! FM... Thank you for what you do.. I invited our next door neighbor over for dinner tonight. ( I found a great recipe for chicken enchalada soup in the cook book you guys didn't take home)it is the Chili's recipe. Anyway, our neighbor, who was recently comissioned, is 34 weeks pregnant. Her husband is "enjoying" one of your favorite schools in GA. She is a sweetheart and I really enjoy her company. She helps me understand some of the things you are doing. I rarely have time to visit neighbors but have decided that this is one neighbor that I will make the time for... I am anxious for you guys to meet her. She reminds me of Jess. I hope things are going ok. I can not wait to see your face. I love you more than you will ever know! Mom

Hey Brother

Dude....I'm not going to spend a bunch of time being poetic or insightful or visionary or whatever. Its not been the best couple of weeks...I work with some managers that can't really manage taking a shit properly, and have no idea what leading by example means. Maybe I will choke one of them out before I leave. Iv'e been to jail...its not that bad.

Anyway, My stuff is minor compared to what you see and deal with on a daily basis.

I miss you. I wish you were here.

Going on Vacation

Soon, but not soon enough, we will be going to Mexico for vacation. Wish you were here Ford so we could all go on vacation. Have been trying to entice Miss Kate to join us but don't know if she will.

Heard from your mom that your dad won a raffle. I'll leave the details to her.

Not much to tell you about. Gramma is doing well, kicking it like she usually does. Uncle Stosh, Aunt Sheri and I are all good. We love you to pieces and can't wait until you are home.

Be safe.

Love,

Auntie Carla

3 months down, 6 months left!!!

glitter-graphics.com

USMA 83

So to start, I will share that Shanna, Tehya, and Kyleigh went up to the Olympic Peninsula to this little town called Sequim today for Shanna's annual tribal picnic. Yes it's true she is a Native American...if you are politically correct. Sometimes I just say "come here squaw." Which is not so politically correct...but then again I never was real politically correct, and she usually just hits me. She is 1/8 Jamestown S'Klallum, and evidentally a direct descendent of Chief Seattle.

Anyway...kind of off topic, but thats how I roll.

So I can't sleep because i'm used to having a 3 1/2 year old kicking me in the center of the back, so I decide to write...maybe to help me sleep...maybe to help you laugh Fordo....and more than anything...to let you know you are always on my mind..

Today was an interesting day. At about 12:30 PM I am hanging out watching the grass grow, when all of the sudden a baby blue 2007 Volkswagon Eos pulls on the lot and the license plate says "USMA 83" with a plate frame that says "West Point."

So there I am...in all my excitement...almost running over myself to get to this customer, excited to share with them all the stuff we have in common, confident this guy is going to do business with me just because of the commonality we share.

He got out first from the passenger seat...with a very cautious look....kind of like most of the looks I get from people who are worried I might try and sell them something. Then she gets out. She has him beat in height by about 4 inches. Come to find out, they both went to the Academy...and I have to tell you Fordo....I don't know what he was thinking....Grey Trow epitomized...

We exchanged pleasentries, and I think to myself...what the @#$% was I thinking, as I head for the door to get 4 keys for the cars they want to drive...that they might buy in a couple months, after they drive 10 other cars..at different lots.....not exactly what you want to hear on a Saturday afternoon...

So I come out with a handful of keys and find out this guy and the guy Jill and I knew...Dave Knowlton ( who was the O.R. for the hockey team when JB and I were trying to talk you into going there) were in the same company...Small world!!!

At this point i'm just trying to break some ice...trying to get this guy to smile...laugh...tell me to beat it..or something...anything.....

So he's sitting in a Passat...the third car he drove...and I say in my infinate wisdom..."My little brother started the biggest food fight in West Point history," thinking I might get a laugh.

The look I got was priceless....almost like he didn't believe anything like that could happen there. Almost like he was upset.

So my attempt at breaking the ice backfired...and i'm not sure a flamethrower could have done the trick.

I just want to say I'm greatful you aren't quite that analytical Bro....because in the end I kind of wanted to sock this guy in the neck...and I probably would have if I didn't think his wife could smoke me...

I hope all is well

Remember not to be so damn analytical....freakin West Pointers

I love you with all of my heart

hope I made you laugh

Me and Baylor on Webcam!

Ford and I are trying to get in touch with Webcam - so far... our schedules have not permitted. Thinking of you

So yesterday I had 15 free minutes and stopped by our farmer's market to get fresh fruit for the family. I know the guy that owns the place and he gives us half the fruit for free 'cause of our larger family now- nice. Anyways, I was waiting in line and this 16 year old boy starts talking with me about how he doesn't like all of these people and that he is from a much smaller place. So I ask him where he's from- Big Lake, AK. I told him I went driving across that lake 2 winter's ago and about all the family in Wasilla and that it was Grandpa's birthday yesterday. His Mom then tells me that the 7th is also her Mom, Grandma, and niece's birthday. Then, I shared with them some good treats to buy at the market. The boy said he had heard of Ford 'cause he has older cousins that used to play hockey in the area. Interesting that I was compelled to go to the market with my 15 extra minutes and ended up meeting them.

So I woke up with you on my mind, Ford, and wanted to let you know I was thinking of you.

Tehya said " I love you Uncle Ford", when I just asked her what she wanted me to tell you. She actually kept her clothes on this week so that I could take her to the pool in our old neighborhood on the 95 degree day. All is good here. We are looking forward to seeing Auntie Kate the weekend after this one. We are holding you both in our thoughts and prayers!

Love,
Shanna

Ford Stories

Since everyone is telling Ford stories I have to add one more. Corliss was in school at the University of Alaska doing her nursing degree. Evidentally Ford would help her study! I was living in Texas at the time and I called or got a call from my sis. Ford was 'little', maybe 5 or 6. He and I talked on the phone and during our conversation he told me he had invented a machine that would cure AIDS. This machine would seperate the bad T cells from the good T cells and then the good T cells would be put back in the people with AIDS and that would help them get better. Hell of a concept.

As Uncle Stosh said, all is about the same in California. We are looking forward to spending some time in Mexico and seeing everyone. Kate - I still say you could work from the beach! Jill and Paul - the beach is calling.

Ford - you know how much I love you. Stay safe.

Love to all,

Auntie Carla

Thanks you to both for the hospitality...Pictured is the view from Roycey's boat --not bad!!

The Mad Bomber of Shattuck-St. Mary School

Zimmy. I remember your post about Shattuck and how it is producing several NHL hockey players lately.

Here's a little known known factoid about Shattuck that most poeple don't know.

During the two years prior to Fordo's graduation from Shattuck, we both gained somewhat of an affinity to the art of building improvised explosive devices.

We used the garage and back yard of mom and dads home in Wasilla as a "proving ground."

When Fordo graduated, I packed in my checked luggage, all things necessary to put together an IED. This of course was prior to 9-11-01, so all the gear made it to Minneapolis-St Paul without the slightest delay.

Late in the evening, or early the next morning, following graduation ceremonies, Pops, and myself detonated an IED on the football field of SSM.

The concussion was deafening, setting off a few car alarms in the vicinity. We all scurried to the rental car and drove off. The next day I saw the crater in the football field and I have to admit it was pretty impressive.

Looking back at the event, I remember there being plenty of alcohol involved, and I don't think Corliss was to thrilled with the shenanigans. I'm pretty sure if we would have been caught, we probably would have ended up in jail.

Fortunately we did not, however, the next day the campus was abuzz about the rather large explosion the night before.

So, not only did my brother start the biggest food fight in West Point history, he was a part of what later became known as The Mad Bomber of Shattuck St-Mary School.

Was it small explosive devices that got my brother interested in being an operator in the Army? Hmmm?

Forder....I love you brother, and I miss you like crazy. I can't wait to make some more memories with you with or without explosive devices.

BTW. It must be in our blood because Beau's 8th grade science project involved plastic bottles, tin foil, and some type of Drano....when mixed together made a pretty hefty boom, and the "coolest" part of it all, was that it was sanctioned by his 8th grade science teacher.

Evidentally there are a few cool teachers left.

If any "heat" comes as a result of this post...it was all my idea....and no one else helped me. I lit the fuze and strategically placed it on the field. Fordo had no idea what was going on, and had he found out he probably would have called the Fairibault Police Department with a tip.

To the rest of you reading this, family, and friends alike. Thanks for your continued support for Forder and Kate

Hey Fordo!

Just a note from your Uncle Stosh.

The Skipper gave us a day off (we are seriously kicking butt in making sure you've got back up) so I thought I'd catch up on some things I needed to do - one being to write you. Hope you're doing well over there, anything you need let me know.

Stories about Ford when he was younger? You need to pay me some "hush" money unless you want the Fordo at @ 1 1/2 - 2 years in my dad's van stuffing his diaper with dad's change that he kept in the console story to come out.

Everyone was out at a picnic (yes, another picnic) and Ford disappeared. Grampa found him in the van loading up his diaper with the change he kept in his console. As I hear it the diaper was sagging like it had a pound of poop in there. OOPS! Guess I just told it. Oh well, guess you saved some "hush" cash. Fordo always did like $$$. I"m glad he learned that it's not all for saving. I worried about that for a while when you were younger but you figured it out just fine.

I'm looking forward to seeing your mom and dad in about a month in Mexico. REALLY wish you and Kate were joining us. We'll drink a cervesa to your health and speedy return home. Maybe next year.

Anyway, things are the same here. I'm going to have shoulder surgery in October the other possibly in December. They should then be done cutting on me and let me retire. Aunt Sharon says that I "WILL" take 6 months off (minimum) to evaluate what I want to do in my next "work" life and to get my golf game in order. She's so hard on me! LOL

I'm telling you buddy, it's really tough when you're actually "there". Being done with the military after 27 years (more than 1/2 my life) is tough. What other job can you get where you make as much of a difference in people's lives as we do - your troops, the people you're liberating, etc. Money isn't an issue - if you continue this through for a career you won't have to work to get by. It really becomes about what job can you get that you're really contributing and changing the world. Unfortunately, I'm not seeing many jobs out here that are more satisfying for a "sheepdog" than the military. Just preparing you for the future... leaving the Navy isn't as easy as I thought it would be.

Good to hear you called your mom. You need to do that as often as possible! She needs to hear your voice to know that you're ok. It's tough for those of us over here knowing that you're over there in harm's way, but no one worries more than your mom (well, maybe your wife). I know it's tough but miss out on a couple of minutes of sleep and give them a shout as often as you get the chance (and yes I know what 24/48/72 hour days are like - been there, done that). It sounds like I'm lecturing... and I don't mean to. It's just that not being on "your" end allows me to see how the people back home cope with our absence. A call or a quick note on the blog makes everyone take a deep breath and know that you're still doing well.

Anyway, I just wanted to check in. Know that I think about you frequently and hope that you're doing well. Keep up the good work and stay safe. February can't get here soon enough for any of us.

Love ya,
Uncle Stosh

Addendum to the last blog

The earring incident occured the same week that he came home from school and informed me that I couldn't call him Ford anymore because he had changed his name to Spike! I think that was 1st or 2nd grade.
Here are a couple of funny stories about the Fordo.. as told by Ricky V...Nate and Ford were racing..Nate (who was a year older than Ford..and faster) won the race. Ford looked up at Rick and said," If we were running in mud I could win, I'm really fast in mud!" He was 4 or 5 at the time... and by golly, many years later, he and a couple of buddies did very well in a mud based triathalon! 2nd I think. I have photo's of Fordo ..mud from head to toe.. Ford went through some interesting phases growing up. This story was told by Ricky V... We lived next door to the V's. Ford and Nate were the best of friends.. they didn't spend much time apart. One day he arrived at the V's door with a gaudy clip earring on one of his ears.. (I'm sure that he was trying to be like his big brother who had just gotten one of his ears pierced.) The V's had just gotten a new lab puppy and they were trying to figure out a name. Ford's name choice was "Cockroach" I did get a phone call from the boy yesterday! That will make my month. He sounded good.. but tired. It was 2:00 A.M. his time. He verified that he enjoys reading the blogs..so keep them up guys!

70's Porn

I couldn't handle it anymore. You people need to start doing more talking....or maybe I just talk to much...hmmm

Anyway, so my sophmore year of high school, Uncle Greg hooked me up with these two Korean brothers...Jae Hoe Sim, and Jae Wu Sim...and for whatever reason, they were the "go to guys" when it came to porn in Sheridan Wyoming.

I still dont get it. The only Korean family in Sheridan Wyoming...and they were peddling swedish porn....Amazing

So I spend like $30 on this 16mm reel-to-reel, horrible sound quality, swedish porn. I think her name was Seka.

When mom and dad were at work, I was charging the fellas whatever I could get, to watch my porn. I was always the entreprenuereal type.

I think it even made an appearance or two, along with mom and dads 16mm projector to a high school party.

At any rate, Fordo must have been about Tehya's age. My hiding spot for whatever I happened to be hiding at the time was in a small crawl space, underneath the stairwell. I guess I should have had a better thought out plan. Evidentally Fordo was exploring in the stairwell one day while I was at school and found my porn.

He immediately turned it over to mom and dad. Man I was pissed I can't even remember what happened. I don't think I even got in too much trouble. Dad probably still has it hidden from mom somewhere.

So Fordo...thnaks for the memory Bro...I love you tons....everybody else...lets talk shit about Fordo while he's gone. I want to hear some funny stories.

I want to hear stories like when he started the biggest food fight in West Point history.

Peace
